Recent Progress on Crystal Growth of Ultra High Temperature Oxides

  • Ultra-high temperature oxide crystals, such as MgO, ZrO2, UO2 and Lu2O3, have important applications in laser, superconductor and nuclear rod. However, they have ultrahigh melting points above 2 300 ℃ and the great challenges in crystal growth include growth technique, crucible, temperature measurement and temperature profile. The recent progress on these crystals was reviewed and the growth techniques were introduced. The technical innovation was discussed for successful growth of super high temperature oxide crystals.
